Trizzino’s Lagoon

Got my replacement trident in yesterday and got it configured. I didn’t realize I would lose all historical data (Cal, Alk, Mag) when I switched them out. So whoops.

Anyways, enough with the bad news. The good news is my corals look great! Still trying to figure out how to take great photos on my iPhone.

Id say you got the picture taking down just fine!! Looks awesome!

After seeing the color @29BioDelMar and @Betico are getting from their Euphyllia I just placed an order for the Red Sea Trace Colors. I am interested to see if this helps with the colors in my tank. I know each tank is unique so what works in theirs doesn't mean success in my tank. I will be taking before and after photos to see the color improvement or lack thereof.

I have heard good things from multiple people running trace colors. Are you going to set up on a doser or hand?

I had bleached out a few of my corals in the qt when i put up a new Hydra32 led. I adjusted the output of course when i figured out what was happening but they where taking a log time to come back.
I started manual dosing RS Trace Colors and started seeing improvement within a week. Looking forward to your picture updates on it.

I am going to start by hand before committing to a doser. If the change is positive I will be saving up for a doser either red sea or versa to automate it.

Good to know!

I picked the Trace Colors up two weeks ago. Not really sure how to use it properly as I do not want to overdose...

How you going to use it? dosage, testing, etc...?

Do NOT go with the versa, that is the one product ecotech missed the mark on, I had nothing but issues with it. I will give you it is dead silent, but leaked, then they came out with a fix of a plastic piece, then it was off on what it was dosing, it was issue after issue. I just ordered the 4 head red sea, I have heard brilliant reviews on it from some close friends. Just wanted to share my .02 with you on the versa.

You have to test for iron potassium and iodine to know what to dose. I just ordered this Red Sea Trace Colors Test Kit. It will be here tomorrow.

So I’ve been out of town and the day I leave everything looks great. The next day I notice alk was a little lower via Trident. No big deal. And then the next day lower, and lower, and lower. So I’m like oh great what is happening. Tanks been stable for months and it picks the week I’m out to go haywire. I wake up and the trident reads 6.5 dkh and I don’t want to make any changes to my dosing via DOS a few hours away so i have my pops go over and do an alk test with the Hanna checker…. 6.9… Not the end of the world but not the 7.5-8 I try to keep it at.I up the dosing slightly and try to not fixate on it so I can enjoy some time away from home.

I have a Wyze camera I set up but between the blues and algae on the glass it’s hard to see details. I didn’t see my torches usual extension so I was worried what I would find today when I got home.

Well, when I came home I found out why my alk was low…

It was being consumed by growth. I had upped my radion’s intensity a week prior to leaving and I guess the SPS had a delayed response.

SPS I had clipped to Initiate growth prior to leaving have already grown over the skeleton. Frags are encrusting on the rack. Here are some quick pictures I snapped when I got home. Dont mind the dirty tank.

So... when is the upgrade happening? That tank is looking AMAZING my friend!!!

I am a firm believer in cutting SPS to enhance growth!

No upgrade in the plans. Currently exploring house renovations. So the human tank may get an upgrade. Thanks, the tank is starting to show signs of maturing as we approach the 6 month mark. I believe it takes a full year before you get an established system. Need to list some more coral so I can just crowd it up again with more coral. First step is identifying i have an addiction to corals. I think clipping greatly enhances growth behavior especially if you have an SPS that is only encrusting and/or remaining healthy without growth.

I haven't started dosing trace colors because well, I've been to lazy to test them to establish the baseline.

Just some updated shots of the tank. Getting some good growth after upping the Radion’s intensity. Haven’t messed with Trace Colors from Red Sea yet. May not even do it if the colors continue to improve with just Red Sea AB+. Trying to keep this tank as hands off as possible from a dosing stand point.

Haven’t done a water change in about a month. Having a broken thumb on my dominant hand in a hard cast makes working on the tank a little difficult.

So I haven’t done a water change in just over a month (Aug 20) and was surprised by my test results. I tested my Phosphate (.11) and nitrate (2ppm). I’ve never had a tank with this low of nitrates before.

Do you do smaller water changes to not bottom out nitrates or just keep as normal and do the 20-25%?

I hadn’t had a fuge light on the 50 and was debating runnning one since AIO chambers are a premium. But in the end i wanted a breeding ground for pods and natural nutrient export since i feed heavy (broadcast feed corals). I decided to get the TUNZE submersible light since I can’t get to the back of the tank anymore and install on back glass like i did on my old 25 Lagoon. Well the light was installed on September 11th and here is the first harvest this morning. Maybe the explosion in growth is why my nitrates remained low even after a long period between water changes.

Those Tunze lights work surprisingly well!
