ok.. so I can see where UV units can come into play... but most of the ones I see look like toys.....

where can I find one that will be adequate for a 150-200g system?

I'd check this out.

After reading mojo's thread, I went with the aqua uv 40 watt on a 230 gallon system. I think Seth is actually selling the same one without the wiper in the fs section...

My exp... Aqua, Emperor and Gamma are the top ones to look into. For best results, get the T5 driven ones. The PC ones are ok, but really only for small tanks.

Emperor Aquatics is the only one worth spending your money on. The others just don't cut the mustard!

As you said, most look like toys, using 3/4" or 1" body. The EA units are massive; definitely worth the $$

I would agree here, the 40 watt I have is like 36 inches tall with like a 2 inch or maybe even bigger housing. I havent hooked it up yet but it looks impressive just sitting on the floor. Just take into consideration the size of the emporers when you order, make sure you have the room. I waited patiently for a year and snagged it for 60 bucks on here. If you wait one is sure to pop up.

Before I made my mind up I would go to both Aqua Uv and Emperor Aquatics website and research both. You will find a bunch of silly comparisons from both. Both are good uvs and basically do the same thing, emit UV light from a florescent bulb. I've ran both with good results.

Lol, that is a huge UV! I have heard great stuff about the emperor aquatic... I had been thinking about a 40 watt gamma uv for my new deal, but it sounds like the EA is a better unit.

I actually think...though I have no proof...but I believe EA and Gamma are of the same. I had a Gamma for a few years and LOVED it! I would buy again if I had to w/o any worries. The EA's do offer some higher output options however...if you're into that. Granted, these do put added heat into your tank (ALL UVs do)...just keep that in mind :)

Ran em both (EA and Aqua UV) and as dave said, i really think there the same...
Consideirng i have the aqua uv 40 watt with wiper and the 57 watt, ill prob just switch as i dont see the big difference between the two.

Lol yeah when I bought it from the guy I was like could you ship it, he was like man I dont think you realize just how big this thing is. I didn't lmao I just knew it was the one I wanted after reading mojo's thread. I've heard good things about the aqua uv ones as well, I've seen pics of the gammas and they do look alot like the emporers.

At the end of the day, I'm sure it's the same Chinese company supplying the parts, its just the companies that throw their name on it. That's a rumor about MH bulbs too, only 2 or 3 manufacturers making all the bulbs. But that's a conversation for another time.

You may be right, I watched a special on how shovels were made one time and they were explaining how basically every shovel is made in the same place, where is goes and what it looks like at the end of it all is exactly what you mentioned

I thought I read somewhere that the Emporer is made in the usa though. Lemme check around and see if I can find it

Edit: I think they are made in usa. yesssssssssssssssssssss
