I will be starting up my new 110G RR soon and I am on the hunt for a place to purchase sand that is DEAD or DRY for semi-cheap; most of the fish stores I have been to want 20$ a bag of carribsea live crap or 20$ a bag for the equivalent in dry.... I feel there has to be a place that sells stuff like .50 a pound for dead/dry sand anyone have any ideas??

Also looking for a place to get dry rock from pretty cheap.

First link seems to be a great deal, not too keen on shipping basically 200lbs of stuff though. Would like to support local vendors prior if anyone has any other clues - locally.

That second link needs fixing, here is the new link:

I went ahead and made an order through reefrocks.net as they've got some stupid good prices on dry sand/rock combinations.

Basically if you buy even 1 box of rocks (50 pounds) you can get as many bags of special grade reef sand (40 pounds) for free as long as you pay 15$ shipping.

I purchased (2) 50 pound boxes of rocks $85 each (to which you can make special orders with free of charge - such as having them saw some rock flat for a base).
I also picked up (3) 40 pound bags of dry rinsed special grade reef sand for only 45$ shipping total on the sand

Total for the 100 pounds of rock and 120 pounds of sand shipped I spent 214$ which equates to about a dollar a pound for both dry rock and dry sand. Killer deal, will keep everyone posted as far as quality goes once it gets here.

Alright, Man.... Help me make sure I'm understanding this... If you buy the rocks, the sand is free. All you have to do is pay for the shipping of the sand???

This is correct, the box of rocks is 50 pounds and thats the only unit it is sold in - 85$.

If you buy at least (1) box of rocks you can get as many bags of 40lbs sand as u want at 15$ each shipping; or as far as ive been able to tell. Box of rocks has its own included free shipping, the 85$ includes it.

I thought so too but 214$ for 100 pounds of rock and 120 pounds of sand comes out to about 1$ a pound - something the LFS cant even get close to touching in even dry stuff.

Please post up a review as soon as you get it in... If it's good to go, I'm following up with an order almost identical to yours... Main concern is that it's not a bunch of bowling balls, and is something that can be scaped and is pourous. Won't really know about the phosphates until later, I guess...

Nice find. Thanks for sharing!!!

The reviews I read and pictures I saw it is quite porous, I left a comment and contacted them about giving me a few good base rocks that were sawed flat we will see.

Cool...

The only halfway negative comment I've seen (I've been reading reviews for about the past hour or so. LOL) was about possible show processing and/or shipping...

Keep us posted...

Will do, I imagine it will take 2-3 weeks for it to show up given it is 200 pounds of freight; then again they are only right over in FL.

Anything yet, Man. I've been following some reviews on another site, and they are averaging a week for delivery time...

Mine should be getting delivered today. They ship the rock fed ex and the sand usps. Have no idea when the sand is going to show up.

Great. How long ago did you place the order?

I got my rock within about 3 days of placing the order; my sand was on backorder for a few more days and is due anytime now.

Will be starting my aquascaping tonight, as soon as I get off of work. Ill post a pic of the rock, so far I was impressed.

That does it. They are getting my money tomorrow. If I let this 225g sit around for too long before I get started, it'll end up like some of the muscle car projects I've had for years that I haven't restored yet. Keep us posted with some pics...

So heres the lot of 100 pounds.

Good bit of baserock, working on building a cave and a mountain around one overflow.
