An affordable automatic skimmer neck cleaner.

The only thing I don't like about the neck cleaners is that the blade is straight vertical. I think it would be smart to have the bottom edge of the blade just a little more forward like this "" That way the stuff that is scraped will be more towards the top and less chance of falling back into the body of the skimmer.

It seems like this would only clean off the crud buildup and not remove the "slime" coating needed for foam production.

Possibly so... when I clean my skimmers' necks, I rinse them under a hard stream of water until the layer of crud flakes off, but almost never wipe them down for just that reason.

Not me...I use an acrylic safe scrub pad and scrub it down...maybe I should stop that.

I would have ordered it already. But I'm skeptical on how it will do with a dirty skimmer. I saw the video, but it was a clean skimmer. Seems it takes awhile for my skimmer to start back after I clean the neck.

So you'll be our tester. :D

Dangit, this won't fit on my skimmer in my stand. I have less than 1" of clearance between the top of the collection cup and the tank's glass bottom.

Mine either... but it would be a butt-kicking piece of eye candy atop on MR4R that sits in the corner and gets dusted once a month! :aargh4:

Please keep us in the loop dave. I was wondering the same thing about what it does to the slime coat on the skimmer. I used to clean my skimmer neck like you did with scrubbing it down and using paper towels to really clean it, but then like you stated, it would take a few days for production to ramp back up. Now I just do what Barry does and rinse the crud off and throw it back on without wiping it down clean. This seems to let it start skimming insantly when I throw it back on the skimmer. I don't know how much of a difference it is in skimmate production, but I feel a skimmer skimming 85% all the time is better than one that takes 2 days to get going to 100% again.

Now if this neck cleaner keeps the production going 100% of the time and keeps the neck clean, win win in my book. Please let me know how it works for you, I would love to have one of these on my system if they work out well.

Mine is supposed to ship to me next thursday, so I guess I will have it by 6/23.

Well that settles it, come h#ll or high water I'll have to make it to the next meeting just for a chance at that thing!

Don't forget, Jeff, they're on the second Wednesday now. :D

That's even better, I get off early on Wednesdays so I won't have to skip work.

Just make sure it fits a BK Mini 160. Then it will fit my other skimmer when I win the raffle!:D

In the video, the lid looks to have the Swabbie custom installed since it doesn't have the little clamp things on it. Is that a prototype?

Swabbie got here today. I'll have to unpack it later, but here is a preview pic, which includes my beautiful 4 legged daughter, Sidney.
