Well, I was set on using an Eheim for the return on my 120, but came a cross what appeared to be a great deal, so I bought it.

Anyone have experience with Blueline pumps, specifically the 55 HD model? Everything I read was positive.

Bill, great pump, quiet and have had no problems for almost a year on my 150. One of the best on the market imo...

Thanks for the feedback. I was pretty sure, but it's nice to get a second opinion. There are no seals, so they claim 10+ years without any issues.

I'm planning to put in quick disconnects with isolation ball valves, just so I can get it out easily to clean it a couple times a year.

I plan on a total system capacity of around 200 gallons (my skimmer would qualify as a nano! -lol). This pump should give me around 4-5 system turns per hour, which is right where I want to be.

No muss, no fuss. That's what I want from the main pump.

the fish store i worked at in college used huge external blueline pumps for their 3 1000+ gallon setups. In the two years I worked there we only had issues with one, and that was because a small snail got stuck in the impeller, other than that I was there for a scheduled replacement of one that was 5 years old and the install easy with no pump or plumbing problems. overall I am a fan. just my .02

Great testament to their reliability.

FWIW- this bad boy has a max head rating of, get this...28 feet!

unless youre planning to run the sump from the floor below I wouldnt bother with the HD. You simply dont need a pressure pump unless you have some serious head, it just wastes power.

Other then that they are great pumps, and just so you know the coralife turbo sea pumps are basically the same pump just with different paint.

I have three Pan World (Blueline) pumps in use now. Great product. Very reliable.

I'm with everyone here. Love mine! Only reason I went from a 55HD to the 70HD for my 120g (200 total gallon system) is the multitude of things I run off my manifold. The 55 just couldn't do it. I put lock line ball valves on the returns in the tank just to make sure I could regulate the flow.
I run 3 reactors and one VERY large UV. The UV added about 5g to my total system water volume alone.

I ran two of them for five years without any problems but I also ran two Eheims, one Dart, one Dolphin and one Iwaki the same 5 years without any problems.
I understand a sample population of one, or even five, yields a confidence interval of zero.

My point- comparing one (or five)pumps is statistically meaningless, especially if we do not have all the info or history on the pump ,especially in regards to how each was maintained.
Obviously, if your fish don't die, it doesn't matter anyway.
To say they are the best or even a good pump would simply be my opinion which may be totally different than yours. Just relaying my experience with these pumps as used in the hobby.
JMHO
