Chapter 1: IM Nuvo40

I used to feed them daily but now its just twice a week.
I spot feed a mix of reef roids & goniopower

These things are moodier than my wife....they toggle between super angry and cloud9. I used to worry, esp on the amazeballs, but now I just let them do their thing and ride it out.
I figure if half are happy while the other half are angry....it must be personal issues

If you remember, I had a DS and a NYK melt on me a month apart right around the 4 month mark in my tank. Very painful to watch. Not the money, well the money too, but more of the feeling of just watching something die in slow motion and you being helpless to stop it

I've been very hesitant to get anymore, but I finally broke down and picked up a couple of nice torches from @Shawn
I'm keeping these 2 new torches in the frag tank (it has a bit more flow).
Fingers crossed.

Just when I thought I was out of the torch game...
I bought 2 new torches...I really need to get better at looking at corals in white light. The lower torch looked like it had yellow tips at the store but looks teal in my tank.
The green torch is super bright and has a teeny tiny blotch of yellow at the base. I know, I know, wishful thinking that the yellow spreads, lol.

And my crocea is showing new scute growth...super excited. Thinking about getting one for the frag tank.

That clam is looking HOT!!

I know right?
From everything I've read, it says Croceas are absolute light hogs but mine seems fine on the sandbed at 130-150 par. They say as long as its growing new scutes, its doing well so I have no reason to think that it isn't. I'm just glad that it seems happy.

I know you just got rid of your derasa - are you going to get another clam?

Thanks, it’s been a fun journey.
Still going and probably never ending.

Like every other hobby it’s not about the destination, it’s about the people you meet and the friends you make along the way.

So I'll sheepishly outline my shopping spree here and also explain the factors involved in each purchase:

1. $80 Fox Face (small) - I had a $50 gift card to Pure Peef and honestly, you'll have a tough time buying something there for that amount. Pure Reef is the only place that I've ever used the ARC member discount. But this tiny sucker went into the frag tank.

2. $50 Black Cap Basslet - After Pure Reef, my daughter and I went to Nemo. I was actually looking for a Geometric Hawkfish because I wanted another fish to finish out my DT. I asked Simon if they ever get them in and the answer was no. So we looked around and saw this pretty cool purple fish with a black stripe. Boom. Done. Couldn't wuss out in front of my kid.

3. $215 2x 2" Ultra Croceas - Algaebarn. I've been looking to get some more Croceas and asked Simon how often he got them in - he said not often. I sat through Clammania's livesale yesterday hoping to pick up a blue Squammy for cheaper that list but they were all pretty expensive. I'm purposely staying away from Maximas because I'm too scared to try them again plus I think they get uglier as they grow larger. Anyhow, Algaebarn recently got some ultra croceas in stock and I applied a 15% discount code. Fingers crossed that they look good because its not WYSIWYG. I actually emailed them and asked about the difference between the regular and ultra grades and they sent me these photos:

I’m digging that ultra. But everyone has different taste. Either way, they both look great.

I bought 2 ultras because they seem a lot harder to come by.
Which is interesting because about 5 years ago...they were available all over the place (based on internet searching).

I just hope that they look good and/or similar to the ultra shown above. We'll find out tomorrow!

Well...12PM has come and gone with no delivery.
FedEx tracking has changed delivery date from 12/16/2020 12PM to just 12/16/2020.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I just hope that they're well packed and heated. I would hate for an animal to die in transit from shipping delays.
