My question is how much energy (i.e. electric bill) is saved using LED vs my current setup, a 150w MH? Im thinking of running 3w and total of 24 blue and 24 white on a dimmable driver. Would this save electricity and lower my electric bill? I have a tiny apartment which hasnt had the heat on in over 3 months and aquiring +$90 eclectic bills.

That's 144W of LED. So, yes,</em> it would save you 6W per hour that you run your lights. That's going to amount to approximately $**** per month though.

I think the led saving only applies to the larger tank setups. Ur looking at 144 was ( assuming u drive it to the full) so its not much difference

+1 you dont need to replace the bulbs like you would on a mh. in a larger system this will help you not need a chiller also

Pending if you used the less for 2 years that would be 160.00 or so in savings you wouldst spent on bulbs so pending the cost to the less you would have paid for the unit within 3 to 5 years

Many people with dimmable drivers do not run their LEDs at 100% either. I would think that this helps with the electricity consumption, no?

Not sure if the driver pulls x amount from outlet and then dissipates the excess current or if it only pulls what it needs

The driver pulls the same amount no matter what you run the LEDs at I believe. I'll wait for someone more knowledgeable than I to correct me.

I do know that LED drivers with dimmers are less efficient at the lower end.

I'll check on the current draw...

if there's no heat in the apartment the heaters are probably using more power than the lights, well except for today maybe

you have to take into consideration that you don't need to run chiller, so extra savings there as well.

Counter to that is that you will likely need your heater(s) more often...
