For the past week my acan colony has been receding pretty badly. One of the heads even died. I am trying to figure out what to do. I gave it an iodine bath and have set it in low light, but to no avail. I have 3 other colonies that are doing great and other corals are also doing really well. Is this RTN? What can I do?

Thanks in advance.

honestly, i haven't done any water tests in like 3 months. I should probably do them. The only thing is that everything else is thriving and I have a ca reactor... even the other acans are super juicy. I know, I need to test. dang.. I hate testing.

Possibly a temp thing. But it looks more like something stug the crap out of it.

it looks like there's a hole in the middle of the acan head that died. i've heard of worms burrowing in acans that can kill them like that

I have a peppermint shrimp who likes to wine and dine on acans, it is driving me nuts. THey did an excellent job on the small aiptasia but now they are turning into nuisances.

Any ideas on how to get them out?

20 ounce bottle. Cut the top off and invert the top into the lower half. Attach fishing line to the bottle and sink. Took me less than 30 minutes to catch my peppermint shrimp.

Do you have a copperband or an aiptasia eating file? I've seen pygmy angels bother them as well.

I had a barnacle grow in between two heads of torch. due to my elevated feeding, the barnacle was capable of growing faster than the torches. At first, i didnt think anything of it, but after about 3 months, the barnacle had tripled in size and began to kill one of the heads of torch. By the time i took care of the barnacle it was too late. The other head began to recede and over 3 months slowly lost the battle. The other 9+ heads are doing great.

Yeah. One of the heads is dead. I thought maybe it was a worm of some sort too. Hopefully when I did the iodine bath the worm was a goner. But I'm just hoping this guy will make a recovery. Actually when the lights are off, the heads will get a little juicier, but I'm used to this guy being happy and out. Could aiptasia be doing this? I had a head of it near the colony that I have since zapped but it could have has some effects. I just don't know if the whole colony would be reacting like this. Just waiting patiently.
