My kitchen tanks

Sadly bad news to report today. I had some die off recently- my red planet which I attributed to coral warfare. But this morning woke up to my green pociliporas bleaching out and a couple of montis also whiting out. Double checked my parameters and my salt was up to 1.027. So, since I had to do a massive water change anyways because of reef flux, I went ahead and corrected everything. My APEX salinity probe has never worked- despite 3 replacements and 2 APEX units. They all start off perfect and go south super quick. I have a great Hannah checker that is always spot on, I just did not monitor closely lately. That will teach me. And now O know certain corals are more susceptible to bleaching from the reef flux when it hits low flow areas.

I've had the best luck with conductivity probes being in a high flow area with NO bubbles of any kind. For me that was in the bubble trap portion of the sump. I also like to give all probes a light brushing every couple weeks. If you see a wonky reading on salinity lift the probe holder slightly not removing the probes from the water and give it a little shake to dislodge and bubbles.

Whenever I make a batch of salt water I check the system salinity. I've caught things I would have missed doing that.

Best of luck getting things recovering!

So, my salinity via Hannah checker is exactly 1.026 in my system. I usually like it a little lower, but everything is happy now, so it’s good. My APEX probe is in a spot of high flow no bubbles. I will try brushing it more often to see if that helps. But it is so out of wack now and never stays in line that I would rather a more consistent probe to use in my system. I have had APEX salt probes for the last few years in multiple systems and they never seem to hold calibration or measures for me :(

Frag tank is doing well. My WWC Sunkist Bounce that I got from @trizzino is now over 2” in diameter and the baby is growing bigger. My RBTA are starting to make too many babies in the tank- will be relegating more to the basket as soon as I can. Now have 5 of them.....

I was experimenting with my VorTech setting a and switched modes to reef crest mode and the corals apparently are loving it. LPS opening up a lot. C073199B-30D2-4ABF-99EB-88F224DC461D.jpeg

The basement fishroom is looking good today. Sooo many salt mollies in the pest tank, many generations of them now. All the red mangroves are showing strong growth. I also keep two walls in the tank covered algae to help feed the babies and the urchins. Refugium growth is good and frag tank is stable. 920D96EB-944A-44E2-96FE-1481B83B695A.jpegDF089318-BAC4-45C7-9071-E38DB4918502.jpeg277A8DB3-9429-4115-ABC9-705CC273F5E7.jpeg3017CF71-581A-4884-A7B9-9311FF9B9F1A.jpegCA65975A-69F9-4A32-8FD5-99599EDDF53B.jpeg17B24C2A-8888-4316-8A33-361D41B24AEB.jpegA0FD7B58-563E-4C43-848C-16A2C4D63E25.jpeg

Pest tank cleaning and water change day today. Had to clean the aquaclear 70 on the right as well as the hydors. Have to leave some algae on the glass for the baby snails. Macroalgae is happy, mollies keep breeding and the gorgonian garden is healthy.
:)
