Outdrsyguy's 940 gallon DT Build

I appreciate the suggestion but there's not room for 800 gallons of water in the fish room in addition to the quarantine system, sump, sink, frag tanks and refugium. I'll have to look around and see if I can find something in the 300 gallon range I can squeeze in somewhere for emergencies. However. I am hoping the 110 gallon qt system will avoid most issues requiring monster water changes

yeah, room is always an issue.. The 250 gallon containers I have are about 2 feet wide, but 7 feet tall, so don't take up that much sqr footage floor wise.

I have mine incase there is a dosser screw up that dumps to much CA or alk in, (CA reactors can melt down as well) ...something falls in by accident, a heater blows up in the water and throws those chemical coated beads all over the place, or my three year old drops something in the tank.

Can you send me a link to your water storage container? I might be able to find space for something with such a small footprint. It's unusual to see large volumes in a tall format.

Also for those waiting on some nice tank shots I'm still trying to get the manufacturer to actually start on the tank. We are roughly 16 weeks now since I put the 60% down payment on it. It's driving me nuts.

I was lucky and found mine on craigslist local, so not exactly sure where they came from.

But here is one that looks to be similar in size... 2.5 feet wide

there are also many other variations here

You may want to inquire with the LFS, I have seen several that use tanks built in more of a vertical fashion rather than a horizontal.

Here's some Doorway storage tanks that may fit your space without getting in the way. I think these will be exactly what you're looking for.

Zomg update time lol. So a lot of works been done although it doesn't look like much. Three of the four 40 gallon breeder tanks were stripped cleaned resealed and cleaned again. Frag racks built for two tanks and the third on top is currently planned for a refugium. Just started a leak test on all three of them. Filled them up with water and cross my fingers. Only found a small leak so far at the bulkhead but tightened it up and it seems to have stopped. Since I lost my counter space with the rearrangement of the room, I built a full down/fold up 30" x 36" countertop. I put a small lip around it in case of spills but I would like to seal the wood and totally waterproof it.

Anyone have suggestions on what I can paint or coat the top of the table with that will be durable and waterproof?

Also, my plan is to hang LED lights above each tank. I was wondering if maybe I should set each tank on a small sheet of styrofoam or insert some foam board into the opening underneath each tank to try and prevent heat rising directly off the lights and getting into the system.

Never used this product but Rust-Oleum makes a product called NeverWet Multi-Surface Liquid Repelling Treatment that looks pretty good. Since you have the capability to lift the countertop up and let water drip off of it the product description sounds right up your ally.

I would use epoxy coating, such as the stuff you used on the floor. Epoxy will likely provide the most durable surface.

Marine varnish. Same stuff that is used on wood boats. Very durable and a nice finish. You can get it at Lowes or Home Depot.

I would cut out a notch on the fold down table top right over the sink so you could wipe down or drain any spills into the sink.
I've used rubber spray on the inside of my stands to protect the wood but for your table top I would use something that looks nicer, i'm liking the marine sealer.

For durability I would laminate it with a sheet of Formica - very durable. I've heard the Rustoleum never wet product looses its effectiveness quickly and dont think its very durable. Same for the flex seal spray, its good to seal thing but not to be use as a counter top coating.

For something simple and keeping the look of the wood just pick up a can of urethane from HD or Lowe's. 3 or 4 coats and you'll be good to go. You could even seal it up with a couple coats and then pour a decent amount on it. The trim will hold it in and when done it will have a lot of depth. Just make sure it's level before pouring.

dude it just hit me like a ton of bricks.....hahaha
why not just do acrylic, you can Weldon a lip around and fasten it to the table top , this way you can do all your fragging and stuff on it and not have to worry about anything.
boat load of ideas, let us know what the big decision is.

Whew. My nerves are on edge! Got the three frag tanks plumbed in and finally plugged in power to the reeflo! Man that's a lot of flow and nerve wracking when it starts up and all those pipes start hammering with air. The water noise from the water editing the skimmer is LOUD and combined with the return pipes it's pretty crazy in here. I feel like waters flowing into the floor in buckets loll. This is going to take some getting used to. Also the Rubbermaid seems to be picking up a resonance from the pump and making the hum of the pump much louder. Going to have to think on how to fix that. Might try raising the sump height to see if it dampens it. Bout 150 gallons or so in the system right now.
Had a small leak at the oiler on The pump, thought I had it tight enough but had to tighten it again two separate times to get a small drip to stop. Crossing my fingers it's tight enough now. Also had a leak at the pump drain which I tightened and it seem to stop. Lastly a small leak at the bottom of the sump that I'm having trouble stopping. Will keep tightening and fiddling with it.
Here's the sump leak spot.

Niagara Falls noise stopped muahaha.
Surprisingly, it did not change the height of the water column in the skimmer at all. Sweet!
Now to figure out the resonance.
