Outdrsyguy's 940 gallon DT Build

Surprisingly, it did not change the height of the water column in the skimmer at all. Sweet!
Now to figure out the resonance.

How deep is the water gonna be in the rubbermaid?

I think the plug has Teflon tape. I'm just scared to over tighten all these fittings with plastic threads.
The water will be between 9 and 15 inches deep under operation I think. Kind of depends on how much overflow I get from the DT once it arrives.

Lol. Ever seen the movie "money pit"? 2 weeks is what I've gotten on 4 separate occasions over the course of about 10 weeks. Latest is early December. Supposedly they have started on it but until I see pics I don't believe it.

Instead of Teflon tap you might want to try this:
http://m.homedepot.com/p/RectorSeal-T-Plus-2-4-oz-Teflon-Pipe-Thread-Sealant-23631/100201204">http://m.homedepot.com/p/RectorSeal-T-Plus-2-4-oz-Teflon-Pipe-Thread-Sealant-23631/100201204</a>

It will do a much better job sealing the threads.

Never used it . Why is it better?

The reason I ask the more water it maintains it probably will quieten some I would guess.

I know it seals really good but don't know what the chemical reaction would be with saltwater if any, but not sure if I would take the chance that it does.

I've been using it in my home for years. But reading this article reminded me to us it when I do my plumbing. I wouldn't hesitate to use a sealant that I researched.

I've used both on pvc threads and oddly enough over time the thread dope was the only ones that ever leaked. The Teflon tape never did. the dope was a pain to try to fix because it hardened and made it almost impossible to remove and repair. I'll stick with the tape in our application. Maybe it doesn't like the saltwater or just coincidental.

Yes, with pipe dope I'd completely understand why you've had problems. The adhesive I linked doesn't cure like dope does.
There's a difference between pipe dope and adhesive. The adhesive doesn't cure hard like dope. Please read the links I posted or the description of the product I linked. Pipe dope is not what I'm saying to use.

Got it I see the difference. I didn't realize rector seal was an adhesive ,I think I will give it a shot. The other stuff I used was garbage. Thanks for the links!

Well, plumbing is all done until the tank arrives! Frack tanks are all plugged in and running with some live rock and a dose of bacteria to get the cycle kicked off. I would guess around 175 gallons so far. I decided to celebrate and spend a few hours cleaning off the stand and throwing up around 600 pounds of rock. I'm sure I'll spend 40 hours arranging it and Aquascaping but thought it would be fun to play a little bit. Definitely much more impressive in person. The pictures make all the rock look pretty weenie. LOL. The pillar in the back left is about 32 inches tall for scale
I set the sump level about 6 inches higher, raised the skimmer and also plumbed in a 2 inch return line to see if that would lessen the home of the pump. Was thinking maybe since it was pushing so little water it might be noisier. Helped a little but still fairly noisy.

I decided to take the easy route and use the marine varnish on the counter top, my wife had a spare can in her studio area from something she'd worked out. Looks decent, we'll see how it holds up.

I went CRAZY this week with black friday and other purchases! Bought all the 80/20 for the lighting racks, 18 (4') t5 bulbs for the t5 supplemental lighting, apex salinity module/probe, apex leak detection system stuff, few switches, breakout box, fish trap (the nice one as my DIY 2-litre bottle one will only work on fishes of medium- size).
Also did a pre-order on the avast marine spyglass. I hate changing carbon so much and that thing looks like a dream come true so I decided to jump on it with the early pre-order pricing

Oh, more exciting even, I started buying a few fish I never would have gotten before in preparation. They are all small and fit more than fine in my 110 and will be transferred to the 940 once it's here/cycled.
Sailfin tang (desjardini), Yellow tang, blue tang, ruby head fairy wrasse, and a dragon faced pipefish. Working on a brine shrimp auto feeding system for the pipefish as I don't see him pecking for pods very much currently. And i'd like to have some mandarin's in the big tank so i'll transfer to there when it's time.
Should have some more pics of the stuff in the coming week!

Light racks for the front and back racks are 90% built. Just need to get all my diy stuff to mount the t5s. Attached is the diagram with layout. I would like to have more t5 on the back but there's just no room with the darn load bearing beam. The beam makes me split it into two sections such that I can raise the lights on either side of it. They will recess even with the beam leaving me 24" to crawl across the top of the tank to work on it.

Early testing with lights to ***** strength with lights and gauge how low to make the t5 posts so the lights sit even with the led lights.

Decided to stay up a little late and open up the 19 t5 bulbs to check for broken ones since I got the first of my Black Friday extravaganza in today. Ups broke 3 blue plus so I'll have to get replacements. Also got Hanna phosphorus and calcium checkers to play with.
