Reefkeeper PC4 Questions

For anybody that knows...if a PC4's status light blinks yellow all the time and the head unit doesn't show the PC4 as a module....does that mean the PC4 is bad?

Second question....if you wire a RKL with regular phone cable....should it work? I have one that somebody has done that too and I want to ask the question before I plug it in.

A regular phone cable will not work, I believe it can ruin the equipment too.

PC. 4 should not blink all the time. Nor should it blink yellow. And no for phone cable.

That's what I thought. Anybody know how I can determine what's wrong with the PC4?

You can use the SID to update the drivers on everything. Mine was all wonky until I updated the whole system.

Do you have to have myreef installed in order to do updates? I've not been able to sign up yet.

Edit: And if you have an old SID you will have to send it in to get an updated one. The old ones will not work on 2.0.

Edit: They are free also.

I have a SID V2. Well crap...I can't do any updates and I've got a PC4 and an MLK that needs updated.

Well for one...I don't know how. For two, I assumed you have to have a user ID and password and when I go to sign up for one, the website won't allow me to. It keeps telling me that I have an invalid email address (or something). I get tired of fooling with it.

You do not need a user I'd for myreef2.0

Edit: The updates are very simple. Open my reef and plug in the PC4 MLC etc and hit update. Wait till the program says update complete. And you we done very simple.

Edit: Most problems with Reef Keeper systems are because you have not flashed everything to the most current firmware.

Edit: There are folks out there the cuss Digital Aquatic products, they are very simple and very user friendly. And most of the folks that get discouraged with them it is a simple problem with their units.

Ok...well myReef2.0 tells me that my SID's are not current. It also says that it can upate my SID. Is that true because it seems like it's not doing anything.

You have to update the Sid also. Are you sure it is the new one?

I have two and both are SID V2's. myReef says neither of them are up to date and it's taking forever for one of them to update. In fact, I'm not sure it's doing anything at all.

Alright...I think I got one of the SIDs to update. Working on the 2nd one just in case.

When you plug in the Sid look on the right of the program it should say if it is up to date. Just

It does now. Both SIDs are up to date (2.08) and now my MLC is up to date at 2.06. Now how do I see if the PC4 is up to date? When I plugged it in to the SID, nothing registered.

Bruce....I REALLY appreciate the help on this. It's been bugging me. I'm a visual person and prefer an owner's manual to read and go by the instructions. It's the engineer in me.

If it is not finding the PC4 the connection from the Sid to the pc4 is bad. It has (pc4) most likely had water in it. That is why the light is yellow. Try to plug it in the other plug. Make sure the pc4 power switch is in the off postion.

Edit: I have a pc4 that does the same thing on plug a but b works fine.

Edit: And there should be a printed manual with the RKE. You can down load one on their forum also.

I'll try both ports. Do you know if the ports can be rebuilt? Just asking before I open it up.
