This is truly a "rant" thread. I honestly hate to share this, but at this point I need to vent a little and warn fellow ARCers. I pride myself on being fair with others, including businesses, and I always try and put myself in the other parties shoes. I try to get nice coral, fish, and drygoods for fair price while also making the LFS happy and making them money.

In the past 6-7 months I've spent thousands on coral with Rit. I've bought chalices, SPS, LPS, fish, god knows what else. Each time I went to see him, I told him my budget and we grabbed coral until I was maxed out. He always threw in a freebie, and that was nice. I lost a few coral along the way, and he was nice enough to replace the cheap coral (Monti, Zoa, etc). This arrangement was great until a month or so ago.

I bought three high end chalices (Bombay Peacock, Mellow Yellow, Riddler) and Red Hornets for quite a sum of money. I picked them up in person. The Hornets were NOT open, but he told me they were earlier in the day and that he'd stand by them. I got it all home and the Hornets melted by the next day and the Mellow Yellow melted just as fast. Upon examination, it didn't even seem to have a full eye.

I got in touch with Rit and explained. I told him that I DID NOT expect replacements, and that I'd rather keep him as a vendor and friend than put pressure on him to replace them. He said it wouldn't be a problem.

Well, a few weeks go by and he won't even respond to PMs. Finally, i get fed up and send him a harsh PM about the treatment and he responds within 10 mintues. He says that I "lose lots of coral," and that I "lose lots of chalice." I reply that this is a complete lie, as the MY was the only chalice I've ever lost of his. He won't back down and keeps telling me I "lost multiple chalices." I tell him that I WILL NOT tolerate lies, that I couldn't careless about the coral, but he needs to be honest. He eventually drops it and tells me he will send the hornets and chalice last monday and get me a tracking number.

I never hear from him again.

Nevermind the fact I've lost a Melanarus Wrasse and a Helfrichi firefish pair I bought from him at Atlanta Aquarium roughly a month ago. I know better than to bother complaining about that.

Honestly, it's not about the $300. It's about being fair and honest with your customers. Rit has some of the nicest coral in the south, and it sucks to have to break that relationship over this, but it is what it is.

I just wanted to share this story with everyone. I have all the PMs saved. If Rit wants to make things right he can, but I'm sure he'll continue to ignore the situation.

Sorry to hear this. You do have a stunning tank and great Things inside. You really do take great care of your tank it seems or it wouldn't thrive the way it does.I hope it works out man

I have bought many zoas/palys from Rskillz and know that he has a great tank that grows anything and everything.
To hear this hurts me because I have bought many things from Rit, but this was before the store opened. Since the store opened it has been very hit or miss for me and I understand this because it takes a lot to open a store front instead of just running an e-site.

Rit, you have been and always will be a great source for wonderful corals and fish. But remember, ARC was your first client and helped make not only your online site a success, but also we were the first people to show up for your grand opening and every weekend since.

True.

Mine have been hit and miss also. Most of the cheap frags i bought fell off the Disk. No biggie tho. But every Zoa ive ever bought melts. But when it comes to Fish they have all strived and lived great. Inverts also. Ive never spent more then 50 on corals with him so i cant say anything about high price pieces.

I have had some from him live and some from him die, with that being said anytime your transporting something from one environment to another you can expect possible losses with fish and coral.

I have never had anything bad to say about rit he replaced my first pair of snowflakes that didn't make it and I was shocked that he did that.

However I see your side of the rant.

Thats awesome! I know he replaced a Fish i lost with no question.

I'm confused as I don't think he, nor any lfs offers any warranty on livestock.

I believe they just try to do "something for you" if there is a loss, but at their discretion.

from what I understand, if livestock leave the store, you own it.

please correct me if I'm wrong.......

Well, cool.....'guess we need to find out If Rit has one, and of he does, what's included and for how long.

What are you talking about super clown. How did he replace yours? I bought a ton of fish from him and not once did he replaced them. To this day he has replaced jack for me. And EVERYONE knows where I bought my platinums and snow flakes from. Anyone that's ever been to my house knows that it was his fish, not my systems. Honestly I hope he replies to this, either Rit or Jamie needs to do something.

I'm not sure about all of you guys. But I've never bought fish from him, just corals and all of them have made it so far. It's been months now and they have grown. I just don't go back due to the service I get. I remember reading his profile about the store and how they'll greet everyone with warm and friendly smiles. I didn't get that the first time but I understand because it was crazy busy due to the grand opening. But a few weeks later after I came back. I walked in and no one said nothing to me, not a work of hi or how may I help you and I was the only person in the store. That's what lead me to leave and not come back. I've never complained about anything I got from him and did nothing wrong to deserve that.
I think all this happened when he needed a freezer and I had one that I was willin to give for free. But then he offered me a trade instead. So I accepted his offer and after that he never got back me with. I PM him twice with no reply. Then i went to the store to see if he had anything new and thats when he started to be kinda shady with me. Hell I just wanted the thing out my garage and could care less if I got anything for it. But I guess he wasn't expecting me to accept his offer. :/ I'm not mad with him, just lost respect so I won't be back.

I have never dealt with rit but from reading just these few posts and no comment from rit leads me with a very BIG ?????? about him and now doubt I will ever have business dealings with him.

I do thank those of you who have posted these comments as I will begin upgrading my current 90 gal tank to the 150 beginning the first week of june and even though I have a very full and thriving 90 gallon tank anyone in this hobby knows there will be plenty of room for expansion and additions and after reading these comments I know who won't be recieving any of the $$$$$$ that will be spent in this upgrade

Im sure Rit will speak up. He has been a stand up guy with me and even though I haven't bought anything but salt from him in a while, I will deft visit his place again. I saw him at the grandopening and he remembered my families names and everything even after not seeing him in a year;0) although I didn't like how they did the raffle drawing, it was still g2g..

I have delt with Rit for several years now with nothing but good things to say about him. I took my daughter up there for her birthday to pick out a fish she wanted and Rit walked around the store with her tell she found her blue regal. By the way my daughter had just turned 4. After Rit got her the fish he took my 2yr old and 6 yr old around a gave them some crabs and snails so they would not feel left out. A+++++ for Rit. As far as coral dieing that is a risk you take buying from anywhere, local store or online its the nature of the hobby. I rember when I paid 100.00 for a 1/2 frag of purple monster and it died. Its just part of the hobby.

To play devils advocate, opening a business is difficult and costly. New business owners are often overwhelmed personally and financially in the beginning. I heard great things about Rit and Jaime, so I visited around the grand opening. I always buy something to support our sponsors. Jaime has been great to talk to and has always given great service. (He even approached me at the April meeting to tell me he owed me 2 turbo snail he forgot to send home with me from my purchase.) I have bought 1 fish, several corals and some supplies. I have been please with my purchases and customer service. (With a store under construction, a customer may have to understand that it is not business as usual, but this allows a merchant to sell at a lower cost, while building out the store)

I know it is hard for consumers to be patient (you deserve satisfaction), but give AA a chance. They are new in business and trying to balance the pressure of opening a store and customer service. I feel sure that Atlanta Aquarium will come through and we will have a great LFS and resource for our hobby.
