i was wondering if anyone lives near douglasville
that knows how to plumb a sump
would be willing to donate some time
to give me advice and maybe a hand

i have 36" 30 gal sump, 125 gal tank, quiet one 3000, 12"x12" overflow box
:1zhelp:

ive looked at alot of them but i need it to be right
i cant afford a screw up right now

I can swing by and give you a hand after work, but it will be next Tuesday or after since I'm off until then. I am babysitter-Dad all day right now.
I would personally not run a HOB overflow unless I had an Aqualifter pump to incorporate (easy to show you how; difficult to explain). That is your ONLY insurance that in a power outage (when, not if, your siphon breaks) that it will restart and avoid a flood. I know Imagine Ocean stocks them, and LilRobb listed one for sale new in the box a few days ago.

i appreciate all the help i can get just let me know when you could come by
my tank is looking kinda rough since i only have one 60 gal canaster filtering it right now
the sooner the better

until i joined ARC i had no idea there were this many reef fanatics just in atl
its so nice to share my experiences with others who enjoy this hobby

If you have any questions feel free to come by and ask. Hopefully someone will get you taken care of. I know Mark is right around the corner from you.

Gotta completely disagree here. A properly set up HOB overflow will never cause issues. It's physics (gravity) and thermodynamics (pressure differential). It works. If it fails it's due to user error. I would be more worried about an Aqualifter dying than a siphon breaking.

Hi CRABS, if at all possible, please, take a few pics as you (and you're help) setup this HOB overflow as I will be trying the same thing in a few weeks. Let me know what brand unit you have? All assistance you're willing to share is very appreciated!!!!
Thanks, Russell

My HOB overflow is perfect, but when i blow a fuse...which is a lot of the time, the siphon does break when the water level falls below the intake level. I just hooked up a dosing pump to my siphon starter tube, and when the power comes out the pump removes all the air from my overflow.

Do you have pics of your setup? The water level should never go below the ends of the tube. If it does, something is set up wrong.
