Reply I remembered the first time I was talking with you via pms because you live kinda closer. You were saying something about having really wierd problems and had figured that it was the bad batch. Man that really sucks, surprised it was Salinity!!!! Did they do anything to right it?

I have not had issues r/t using Salinity. I have always thought it was a high quality salt.. I have bought two barrels so far, and I have always had to transfer the salt into smaller buckets for transport, so maybe I am inadvertently mixing it back up when I scoop it out and put it into other buckets.

Also, never had a problem mixing it either.

Thats so wierd, did you ever have it tested? If not did you save any of it?

I just don't find anything negative about Salinty....when I first heard about it, it was a price sticker issue, and I was already happy with Seachem Reef....However, I didn't realize that it was 225 gallons per.........

Did you hear of any other reports of this? The salts are mixed in "lots". I actually heard about a bad lot of seachem reef, but never a "lot" of salinity. If you had a problem, others had to have the same problem, right??

I'm glad you were able to trace it down, sorry it got you for that much though.

I've heard the theory proposed that Salinity is</em> Seachem Reef Salt, with an individual batch test. This theory was mentioned to me by a Seachem/Aquavitro dealer, BTW.

I'm too lazy to do the math, but Reef Salt = 44.8 lbs/"160"g , Salinity = 35 lbs/120g... I'd have to figure out how to factor for the SG difference when mixed per the label and it's late.

I lost a couple beautifull colonies of zoa's, a yellow wrasse and a royal gramma which I had for at least 5 years. Had a cabbage leather drying up but seems to be showing new life around the edges also had long polyping leather that completely dried up and thought it was dead but now I am seeing signs of life in the head. Oh yea I also lost 2 nice beds of GSP. I guess if I totalled everything up I lost a few hundred in livestock

Are you findings just this current bucket of Salinity or is this somehting you've typically been finding with it. I am refering to you first post for clarity

While one of you only lost corals, the other lost fish, too. Did you have the same lot #s? I think it's easy to place blame in this hobby, but think often the blame is placed incorrectly. I'm not saying this is true in this case, but seachem produces hundreds of buckets per week, I assume. If there was a bad lot, you'd think that you'd hear more than locally.

You can find Salinity more economically priced. I've never seen (or sold) it for $90.

As for "tank crashing" or other stuff, I've seen somebody report just about every brand of salt will "cause" something. Might be the salt, might be user error but for every brand there's a horror story. Just sayin'.

And to Barry's bit about Salinity being Reef Salt with a batch analysis. Hmmm I don't know about that. The Reef Salt is packaged by a third party for Seachem. The Salinity is made in-house in the Madison, GA facility. I don't see how they could be "the same" because they aren't packaged in the same place.

Guess that debunks the theory I heard! :)

I never knew that about S. Reef Salt.

I purchased a bucket of it and mixed it every which way (that anyone) suggested..

cloudy every time..

I don't have time to spend on a finicky salt..

so I purchase ReefSalt (by seachem)... I spend less than 3 minutes on mixing it and it's the same every time..

I'm not sure why it is considered high quality. Just because some of the levels are higher than other salts? I have to dose anyway so adjust the dosing pumps or reactors accordingly for the cheaper salts and do 30% more water changes. I say spend the money on exporting nutrients (water changes) not additional calcium and magnesium.just my opinion.

I've bought several buckets and one barrel of salinity and I've never had a problem with cloudiness. It's seems like a good product, but I dont have enough experience with other salts to judge its value.

I just opened the second bucket last weekend so I am watching for changes. As for params I found they were pretty consistent between both buckets but I will say I did not start checking the mix from the 1st bucket before using until the last couple of water changes. I'm not laying the blame on salinity at this time just stating I find the issues I have encounterd with trying to keep up param levels with alk in particular and the loss of livestock since I began using this product.
I do have to admit I asked the owner of the lfs where I bought my first bucket if he had anyone else comment about an extremely strong odor while mixing the salt or if they had noticed an odor when they first opened the bucket.
