Who has given up Aquavitro Salinity? WHY?

Thanks Jenn! Great prices!

I did a 30 gallon water change, and my tank was cloudy for about an hour or 2....This stuff I mixed up Monday, and I have a K-4 in there. A little residue on the bottom of the 44 gallon Brute from not being completely dissolved....Other than that, everybody is happy!

I have never had my tank appear cloudy from salinity, I do notice water is cloudy in mix tank for a couple of hours until dissolved but never had my aquarium turn cloudy during water changes. I do agree with the residue at bottom of mix tank from undisolved chemical additives but I just wipe it out and add new water. Still giving serious consideration to doing a 50/50 mix of I/O and salinity but have decided to give this new bucket 1 more water change to see if it will be better than last bucket. I say this because I haven't noticed the very powerfull odor when opening the container and even worse odor when adding to water with this new bucket that I had with the 1st bucket.

I've had my saltwater mixing since Sunday night with a MJ1200 and the water is still cloudy in the brute.

I read somewhere that you were to use it rather quickly after mixing it, something like <24hrs. That if you mixed longer it became more cloudy. Just remember reading it, can't recall where. Maybe someone else can chime in on it.

I've never used Salinty, always use RC, but was considering switching. I have used several of their suppliments and thought that they were great. So I'm tagging along for insight.

Same (mixing since sunday), but mine is crystal clear?

Um... false.

As for "tank crashing" or other stuff, I've seen somebody report just about every brand of salt will "cause" something. Might be the salt, might be user error but for every brand there's a horror story. Just sayin'.

And to Barry's bit about Salinity being Reef Salt with a batch analysis. Hmmm I don't know about that. The Reef Salt is packaged by a third party for Seachem. The Salinity is made in-house in the Madison, GA facility. I don't see how they could be "the same" because they aren't packaged in the same place.

Jenn
Why would that necessarily restrict them from being the same? Could they not use the same formula in Madison as the third party does?

I've had new Salinity water mixed up for a couple weeks in a brute container and it stays clear, at least IME. Funny, but I've never had any salt brand remain cloudy in RODI after the initial addition to the water.

Perhaps my eyes were cloudy when looking at the brute. It was late after all. I'll report back after a water change tonight.

I was having similar troble when I first started using salinity I upped the temp of my heater in my mixing container to 80 degrees and this helped the salt mix a lot faster

Really? I may do that tonight than instead of doing a water change. I'll just push it off until Saturday.

I have no doubt you had cloudy water if you say you did. My RODI is usally room temp when I add the salt. I use an Eheim 1260 for mixing.

Just funny how people's experiences with Salinity are all over the board.

Well, truth be told, I may have had one or two adult beverages as well as it being late prior to looking into the brute. LOL

My RODI stays under my kitchen sink so it should be room temp as well.

Oh, you had your Beer Goggles on. Gotcha!

My rodi is in my garage, so I usually keep my heater on...this time I thought it was warm enough, so I let it mix at 66-68 degrees.

I'll put my heater back on from now on, however....

My description was very accurate, my tank was more "hazy" in appearance then cloudy. Salinity was mixed to 35 or 1.026 using a calibrated refractor using pinpoint solution. It was mixed 48 hours in advance.

the cloudy issue I haven't experienced except for the initial mixing of salt in rodi which lasts for awhile never timed it but somewhere between 1 and 2 hours and it is a bit cloudier than I/O or RC but never gave it any thought. I have mixed with water temps at 80 degrees all the way down to 68 degrees and it always acted the same on initial mixing.
