Once again the Maxi claims a victim and defends his title of heavy weight champ of the cube :smashfreakB:
This peppermint cleaner only made it 10 days .
He follows a long line of dead reef pets before him.

and thats why ill never have a carpet nem lol. they are beautiful but i dont want it having 25 dollar meals every other week.

Hard to tell from the pic, but how big is it? I've got two in my tank that are probably 4" across, and they have never moved, nor claimed any other lives that I'm aware of. Sorry for your continued losses.

Could that be the shed skin of a peppermint and not the actual peppermint? Peps will hide for a few days after shedding until their new carapace hardens. And they will typically shed after placement in a new reef tank, for some reason or another.

I think I'd rehome that thing if it is eating your livestock, pretty though it is!

I wish it was a molt but my wrasse pulled some of it out and it had meat in it.
Both the peppermints have already molted last week.

I'm not really sad to see them go , I have a small bta that I suspect the shrimp of harassing I only saw them picking at it once but they have been living around its rock and its looked upset for a week but I couldn't catch them.

Its 5" and has claimed 1 fire shrimp and 3 skunk cleaners and a fish possibly a goby but I don't recall .
It's very sticky and usually begins with there long tentacles blown into it once that happens. They usually die very fast from the sting.
I have also knocked a few coral off of which they all died pretty quick.

It's also the my oldest sw pet and Its never moved bit its foot is on a base rock that holds my rock work up.

I was going to ask if it was a molt but you already addressed that.

Unfortunate, yes. Beautiful creatures, carpets, but voracious. Keeping one has its trade-offs.

It's not quite as risky in a larger tank where other creatures have room to avoid the carpet, but in a small space, sooner or later, the little critters get caught.

Can you propagate these like you can with BTA? I've always wanted a maxi mini, but I would like to keep my invertebrates.....

I have a red rock anemone that seems to be a good citizen for a year or so. Not too big and all my fishies in the 100 gallon seem accounted for.

To be honest my Maxi has never moved it was attached to that rock in my first tank , I placed the rock and that was that.
The only fish it got was brand new and it shot out of the net and swam in to the maxi .

In the future at my next upgrade I will be looking for it a home most likely instead of moving it if for no other reason but to keep shrimp again.
