So tonight I decided to start dosing Vodka into the 180. Going by all the articles I have read I have a total volume of 200 gallons thus meaning my starting doses should be 8ml. per day. Which Im starting tonight my nitrates are @ 20mg/l...... I will keep everyone posted with updates.

Since I have always been fighting the losing battle against my trates I thought I would give this a shot and see whats happens. I love to overfeed as well lol...

Slow is the only way to go. Im pretty patient anyway and I cant wait to see thew results. My actual starting dose should be 8ml but I decided to start with 4ml each day and raise it up from there.

I have set up a chart on my computer to track my progress and I will take some weekly pictures for compairison. After a month or two I will do a write up on my sucsess or failure with the Vodka dosing lol.

I dosed vodka for a few months and it worked well for me, dropping nitrates from 20> to .5 with an elos test kit in 21 days.

You sure your starting out at 8ml and not .8?

Here's what I did (around 200g volume)
and I'm using 200ml voddka, 50 ml vinegar, 1.5 tsp sugar
Every 15 days, 1 cap of prodobio.

>.1-.5 per 20 gal (started at 1.0ml to be safe) for 3 days
> days 4-7 .2ml per 25 gal
>Afterwards .5ml per 25 gal every 7 days until nitrates dropped.

Best of luck, just take it slow. Watch how your fish are breathing, and if your sps are getting burnt tips, lower the dose.

I did half the recomended dose which would be .4ml sorry for the confusion and will do this for the first 3 days. I will post a before picture sometime today.

Cool deal, take a picture of your skimmate before and after also. It went from a dark green to starbucks coffee for me! Looking forward to seeing your results.

Sweet. I wanna see your black skimmate when it comes. That stuff is NASTY! Your skimmer will turn into a whole different moster while dosing.

I've been carbon dosing for a few years, so if you have any questions let me know. What salt are you using?

Its already black sludge so I cant wait. I just cleaned it today and I promise you wouldnt be able to tell I wasnt dosing vodka.... I will do my best to keep a log of everything.

I am using reef crystals. I have always used this salt mix. I am also injecting ozone into the skimmer I forgot to tell everyone that.

I started doing carbon dosing but my issue is that I tend to forget to dose sometimes.

I have been running these new NP Biopellets for this reason. I am at the two week period now and so far so good....the jury is still out, after a couple of months I hope to tell.

I know that the vokda method is proven effective. I would be doing that if I did not travel frequently.

Maybe we should move discussion to the following thread, but yes they are:

This is why I like Seachem salt. Nice 8.5 on the alk. Perfect for Vodka dosing.

Ditch the reef crystals. I had to dump a bunch of mag in my salt mix everytime I had to do water changes.
