275 gallon system. 180 gallon DT, 55g refug, 40g sump

It's the same number of LEDs, so probably similar size and light footprint, but that light uses a larger mix of diodes where as the reef breeders is mostly. Just the 650nm.

I wouldn't be able to tell you which would work better.

I think I'll give it a shot. What's the benefits of the 650nm?

Noticed some of the silicone in my sump that I put in around baffles is turning a little yellow and crummy looking. I tried to see if it would wipe off but no luck. It's aqueon aquarium Silicon. "salt and freshwater safe". Just hope the water isn't being slowly poisoned

This looks awesome so far. Fair warning - the clowns will never explore the entire tank. My domino's have been in my 120 for a year now and i'm about 99% certain they have never crossed over the middle of the tank. They stay exclusively on their side and can be found in their little section probably more than 50% of the time.

You can get them http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Medical-Infusion-Set-with-Very-Efficient_50018856291/showimage.html" alt="" />
from a vet for like $15. I had 2 sets because I had to give my cats fluid. They are really nice to use for drip acclimating.

Could you get some photos? That silicon is safe to use (obviously) but definitely shouldn't be breaking down. I wonder if it's just got algae growing on it and making it look iffy.

It's just normal algae growth, same thing happened to me with a new sump. Later it will have coralline on it

Leaking bulkhead.

So it's a brand new tank that came with the predrilled corner overflows. I had a good seal since it was filled but when i trying to clean the corners out im sure I bumped the return line pvc or I twisted the pipe so the spray bar would be positioned better. Well now the bulkhead is leaking. And after tightening it still leaks.

Not sure how to fix this problem without draining the corner and removing the plumbing and starting over. If it's the cheap looking o rings I wouldn't even mind using a little silicone.

Any experienced reefers know how to address this problem?

OK just making sure. I can deal with that. Not sure how it's growing though. There's almost no light down that way and it seems to be underneath the silicone.

with the time, size and cost of your system, any thing you do other than replacing the bulkhead would be a temporary fix and would only cost you more later on when the tank is in full swing.
spend a little more time and $ now and replace it and save yourself the pain later.

Ya I just can't believe it would be bad. I mean it was just installed. Should I do the entire bulkhead or just try and find another silicone o ring for it?

I would go with a new bulkhead, there might be a possibility that you might have thread damage or even a hair line cracked bulkhead.
bulkheads that you screw into under the tank are famous for splitting cause of the pressure its under just to seal by screwing it in tight enough.

Well I'll probably go ahead and buy a couple to keep on hand. Any recommendations on brand or where to buy?

to be honest with you, I pick them up any where I can fined them at a good cost and brand doesn't bother me to much but your LFS always carry good quality stuff.

Another Update... In the process of getting the apex set up.

Got more sand for the DSB in the fuge. Need to uncover some of the extra rock.

Got the bulbs in for the fuge. Still need to get 2 fixtures for them. As soon as I do I'll start start hunting for some macro alge.

Any idea what this slimy spider Web looking stuff is? It's rolled up in the sand some too.

Looks like I have some alge growth. I'm going to do a water change and cut down on the lights. Anything else I can do to combat this or know what kind of alge it is?

Yep, congrats you have reached the diatom stage of your cycle. Once they consume the nutrient feeding them(silicates I think), they should die off in a couple of weeks. You should be able to add fish soon!

;-)

Awesome thanks. Anything I can do to clean it up? Seem that my snails are having a feast.

I'm not a expert (although I may have stayed at a Holiday Inn last night) but my thoughts are that diatoms will stick around until the nutrient feeding them is used up. Just part of the new tank thing. You could try cleaning with a toothbrush, but they tend to stay as long as there is food. Kinda like a drunk frat guy at a college party, but once they kill the keg..... see ya
