Help with new tank.

The place I got the lights from said once I ordered them they were mine. So I guess I will have to learn from my mistakes. But at least no fish or animals were hurt by it. I will have plenty of time to learn how to run a tank and care for what I get until I can get the money up for the better lights.

dont worry peach, almost everyone starts out in this hobby loses $$. It takes awhile to understand what you really need and want. You have a **** good pc system so do the best with it that you can. Some of the best corals IMO are mushrooms and zoanthids. You can get about anything you want except for clams, sps, and anemones. I personally dont feel you will be able to support any anemone under pc's! This is a good place to come for great advice, taking advice from an LFS is like playing blackjack. I would concentrate on getting zoanthids if i was you, they are absolutley beautiflul and multiply quickly. Good luck and come here from now on.

yes a hard lesson learned but at leaste you have a positive attitude about it ...you best bet is to get a good book and ask as many questions as possible then ask some more and remember everything in this hobby takes time the faster you go the more room you leave for faliure good lick and welcome to this wonderful jurney

I have been reading so much on line and a few books but I guess they weren't the right books or the right site to be looking at. But now maybe I can get the right advise to get things growing. And yes it is a money pit or at least it feels like one. My husband calls it an expensive mud puddle.

IMO, yes it is very expensive but you can have a piece of the ocean in your living room is priceless. Its the center piece of your home. People and yourself willl become fasinated with it.

post your light on ebay and see if you can sell it. Even if it a lots less then what you paid for. Well that 1 way to change out your light.

The bright side to this is that like will save you lots of time and money right now.
Clams, sps, and anemones are harder to keep then solf corals and LPS. they need to be in a stable systerm that been up and running for over a years. ( You can put them in a new systerm, but you will need to really know what's you are doing to keep them health.) With that said this light of your will help( MAKE) you take it easy and start out with easyer to keep corals so you can enjoy them rather losing money and time trying to keep something too hard for you right now.
PH, CAL, flow, temp and everything else have to be stable to keep sps, clams and anemones alive and healthy. not a good thing for someone who are just starting out.

That is true. So I guess my bad pick of lights may turn out to be a good thing after all. That way things don't have to die because I dont know how to care for them. Like they always say baby steps.

Your light is also a good name brand and will fetch top dollar on resell. It aint like you bought an Odyssea light!

yes , you have the same starter system as me and most people. Dont get an anemone, you will get frustrated. It will likely bleach out and die. Zoanthids are very popular and are very amazing, you can get candy canes, shrooms, torch, ricordia, blatos etc, the skys the limit except for sps , sps is the holy grail of reefkeeping/

The ones you just named off are they easy to take care of? I have only heard of some of them. I have only been looking at this stuff for about two weeks. Told hubby I wanted a tank and I got one in two days. So I guess I should be careful what I ask for.

After setting up a tank is it better to get the skimmer first or the uv sterilizer? The guy at the store said the next thing that I needed to get is the sterilizer. Is this true? Or is this more bull?

if you sell your lights let us know and we can guid you in the right direction you might have to pay a little out of pocket cause you might loose some but will have a good lighting system i have spent alot of moneey on my tank getting the best equipment possible ...there are people here unlike me that have spent the same or even more on numorous set ups like dakota and his ebay experiance .lol .....but you have one of the best name brand for lights availible

you dont need a uy but it does help get a skimmer first a good one i recomend is an octapus or das ....uv if you want one cause it helps with parisites if you run water threw it real slow would be a corallife

yes I was talking about your. All I have in mine are a few white rocks and 4 blue fish. So mine is really sad. But I do have a nice stand.lol
