Help with new tank.

Wow 150 GL using the old school way then you got to need about 300lbs of RL. I say get a GOOD skimmer and have it the most of the work and use as much rock as you like your tank to look. No need to stack them up from wall to wall with the old school way

another thing you will find out about this hobby is that there are very different opinions on how to do things. however we all can agree on that you need a skimmer ASAP. you need good flow, and you need to do routine water changes.

I think Atlanta is a little far to drive for rocks. I have a friend who said he is getting rid of his salt water tank and going to fresh. He said I could have his live rock and a starfish but I had to have my tank ready before he would give it to me. I have not seen the rock or his tank so I'm not sure of what I will be getting.

Wow, nice tank! I am jealous! I'd be in bankruptcy, however, if I had a tank that big! lol!

This, too, is one of those opinions on which reefers differ. Although many think the damsels are devil fish, my first two fish were yellow-tail damsels and I still have them. They're colorful, scrappy, hardy, active and have never harassed any subsequent additions to my tank, even when my system was a small 33-gallon. I was always sure to rearrange the aquascaping a little bit before adding other livestock and never had a problem.

Also... regarding your lights, that's a terrific fixture for a FOWLR (fish-only-with-live-rock) tank and many members here have that kind of system. You might be able to sell it here in the Want to Sell/Trade forum and you could even luck into a trade with someone setting up a FOWLR.

Check amazon.com. I bought my books gently used for a very good price.

Why cant there be a few less to choose from. What are the big things I need to be looking for in a skimmer?

So far it seems that ASM, Euroreef, & Octopus would be your best bet.

I've a EuroReef RS180 on a 175 with a 55 gal sump. It does a great job and is easy to adjust. Based on comments I've read, it may be a bit noisier than some others, but it's the only one I've had so I'm not in a position to compare! Is it the best? Who knows! But I'd buy it again.

I also have a EuroReef RS80 for my 75 gallon. It is a quality product. Like Geehh, it is my first so I have notheing to compare it with. I would buy another in a heart beat. I graduated from VSU, so I know your choices in LFS are slim. You should order a skimmer online. Like everyone has said before take your time and read a ton. Then read some more.
