My epic 120g Build Thread

I should be ready to host in May. Someone needs to volunteer to host April. My wife is due June 4 so I think I'll be a little busy after that.

Geez! I spend 3+ hours a day working on this brick. Very tedious. Dumped in a respectable cleaning crew and pod population today. Brick or no brick, there will be fish and coral in one weeks time.

Cycle is finished and the last of the hair algae should be gone soon. Got Trates and Phates down to nothing. Added the few frags that I had and looking to add more. I still haven't had the time to figure out my VDM to control ramp up/ramp down on the AI's. I was worried that 2 AI's wouldn't be enough but I think they're going to be perfect.

The project got a little bigger. My helper looked at me and said, "You know what would look really good? Get more brick and do the walls to the right and left of the tank around the windows." He was right! So, another trip was made for more brick.

One week, I swear I'm done. I'll then be ready for Grouper to make me some doors.

About to cross the finish line. Just waiting on Grouper Therapy to come out and make me some doors to put above, below, and on the top of both sides. Here's a few pics of some recent additions.
The one you may not recognize is the Spot-Face Tang. (acanthus maculiceps) This should look pretty wicked when it reaches maturity.

I'm just curious about how you plan on maintaining the look of the bricks in the area that needs to remain accessible. I can't wait to see the results!
Thanks in advance.

I'm going to have Grouper help me with some ideas. I'm hoping an earth toned stained wood would work. Worst case scenario is making a panel door with a brick front. Not sure if I'll do two traditional hinged swing doors on the front or have one flip up style with a locking hinge. I'm trying to keep the area inside as clear as possible to allow for any future access. I too often end up doing something twice. I'll try what I think will work then change my mind and redo it later.
I always learn things the hard way.

Carib Sea Hawaiian Black.

People often look at me, shake their head, and say that. Except, not always in a good way.

haha it does look cool.. but u don't see many folks brick the INSIDE of their home :) interesting....reminds me of a Seinfield where Kramer wanted to be surrounded with wood.

cool build man :)

While I was busy doing my build thread my wife had her own going. It was a race to see who finished first and she won. I still don't have any cabinet doors around the tank. Big shout out to my incredible wife. Her build pics are attached. She finished hers June 2 at 11:30am. And appropriately, it was a water birth. :yay:

Congrats! June 2nd is my son's birthday too! First kid? In any case enjoy them while they're small because it'll seem they turn 6 overnight!
