Vics CD 180G Peninsula

OH MAN!!! I am so excited, I'm shaking. So, my overall career goal is to be a Buyer. However, when you work at Costco and there are hundreds of talented employees and positions come around only every 10-15 years, the chances are very rare. Well, a few weeks back, I was invited to apply for a position. Mind you, this position is invitation only. Last week, go the interview, I think it went well, but considering how many talented people out there chances are still pretty tough. Today... I get the call. I just got promoted to Costco Buyer!!! Career goal met!!
Thats Fantastic, Congrats!

So ridiculous... I had bought an AI Rail Kit and over tightened the angle bracket and broke it. Reached out to AI, ordered it and paid for it 12/1 and was told it will take a few days to go out due to limited staff. Sounds fine right? A few days to me means 2-3 days before it leaves the facility. Its been 2 weeks!!! Still nothing. I reach out, they never shipped it but charged me the same day. WTH! So ridiculous. Their response is "we'll work on getting it out". What does that even mean? Ugh...

Quarantine up and running
Are you going to use anything like Stability to cycle the QT tank? I started to cycle some rock and marine media to try and pre cycle for tanks and QT but after 5 days still see 3.0 ammonia and no nitrite or nitrate. Wondering if the Stability is working at all.

I used stability in the past alongside prime that I did ever 3 days for 2 weeks just to be safe. However, I will not need to cycle from scratch since I'm carrying over 4 cycled marine pure blocks and a 2 gallon bucket of matrix that is cycled as well.

I've never done a traditional cycle on a fish QT, only for coral. For QT's like to use Fluval C series HOB filters. I like them because the internal baskets have a decent amount of space to pack full with Matrix. I then just use Biospira poured directly into the filter intake just before I add the fish. If the HOB filter you use has the space to pack in some Matrix, do it because it does a great job.
I also modify the intake line for the filter so it surface skims. All it takes to do that is about $5 in 1/2" PVC fittings. This is good to, not only because of the great surface skimming but because if you don't have an ATO hooked up you will hear the pipe gurgling when the water level drops, then it's time to top off.

I keep Prime on hand in case of emergencies but I don't use it unless it's absolutely needed. Prime will convert the ammonia into a compound that is not harmful to the fish but also unusable by the bacteria, which can hurt the cycling and force you to do a water change and have to add more bacteria anyway. SeaChem Ammonia badges are great for QT's... I have started up my fish QT at least a dozen time this way with no issues and all of the Prime I've used has gone in the bag the fish come in as I open them. I currently have a 20L running with 3 fish in it and am about to fire up a 60B, but the 60 will have a sump with Bioballs and some Matrix in there.

Awesome thx for the info Adam!

Glad Adam responded. I totally missed the quarantine part. Yes, I pulled a few biosphere balls to use as part of my QT. Never had any issue. After I’m done, I rinse it, dry it fully, then put it back in my tank to rebuild the bacteria load.
